چکیده

We model the infrared (IR) emission from the ring-like dust disk around the main-sequence (MS) star ǫ Eridani, a young analog to our solar system, in terms of a porous dust model previously developed for the extended wedge-shaped disk around the MS star β Pictoris and the sharply truncated ring-like disks around the Herbig Ae/Be stars HR 4796A and HD 141569A. It is shown that the porous dust model with a porosity of ∼ 90% is also successful in reproducing the IR to submillimeter dust emission spectral energy distribution as well as the 850 µm flux radial profile of the dust ring around the more evolved MS star ǫ Eri. Predictions are made for future SIRTF observations which may allow a direct test of the porous dust model.

We have used the InfraRed Array Camera (IRAC) onboard the Spitzer Space telescope to search for low mass companions of the nearby debris disk star ǫ Eri-dani. The star was observed in two epochs 39 days apart, with different focal plane rotation to allow the subtraction of the instrumental Point Spread Function , achieving a maximum sensitivity of 0.01 MJy/sr at 3.6 and 4.5 µm, and 0.05 MJy/sr ...

Epsilon Eridani’s Planetary Debris Disk: Structure and Dynamics based on Spitzer and CSO Observations

Spitzer and Caltech Submillimeter Observatory (CSO) images and spectrophotometry of ǫ Eridani at wavelengths from 3.5 to 350 μm reveal new details of its bright debris disk. The 350 μm map confirms the presence of a ring at r = 11–28 (35–90 AU) observed previously at longer sub-mm wavelengths. The Spitzer midand far-IR images do not show the ring, but rather a featureless disk extending from wi...

Imaging Circumstellar Debris Disks

In the early 1980s, the Infrared Astronomy Satellite (IRAS) detected thermal emission from dust grains with temperatures of 50-125 K and fractional luminosities (Lgrains/L∗) in the range 10 -10 around four main sequence stars: Vega, Fomalhaut, β Pictoris, and ǫ Eridani. Coronagraphic observations of β Pic confirmed that the grains do indeed lie in a disk, perhaps associated with a young planeta...

The Mid-infrared Spectrum of the Short Orbital Period Polar Ef Eridani from the Spitzer Space Telescope

We present the first mid-infrared (5.5Y14.5 m) spectrum of a highly magnetic cataclysmic variable, EF Eridani, obtained with the Infrared Spectrograph (IRS) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. The spectrum displays a relatively flat, featureless continuum. A spectral energy distribution model consisting of a 9500 K white dwarf, an L5 secondary star, cyclotron emission corresponding to a B 13MGwhite...

A dust ring around Epsilon Eridani: analogue to the young Solar System

Dust emission around the nearby star ǫ Eridani has been imaged using a new submillimetre camera (SCUBA at the JCMT). At 850 μm wavelength a ring of dust is seen, peaking at 60 AU from the star and with much lower emission inside 30 AU. The mass of the ring is at least ∼ 0.01 M⊕ in dust, while an upper limit of 0.4 M⊕ in molecular gas is imposed by CO observations. The total mass is comparable t...
